Welcome! The simplistic origin of Estonian food does not keep it from being modern.
Meet Rene Uusmees, the stubborn chef!
But stubbornness has always been a great propelling force in Estonia. In order to understand it, one must read our earlier literature. Back then, hard physical labour and hard work were done so that love and bliss would arrive one day.
Rene turned the literature upside down at his restaurant. The most important thing there is love. Then comes work. Intelligently and eloquently, not drudging for no apparent reason. And the flavours we get this way are so good they are sometimes even blissful.
The menu of MEKK – or should we say, its book of flavours – is always an interesting read, because it often contains something new.
Baked cold smoked salmon with spinach, dill and laurel-boiled potatoes and horseradish sauce (€ 10).
The origin of this dish is fresh potatoes with a simple fish. The fish is lightly smoked and poached rather than boiled. The salmon is still a simple fish after all that, but what a taste! The potatoes boiled with dill and laurels are a lot more that just boiled fresh potatoes.
Cold and warm appetizers at MEKK cost from € 6–12 . The four-course chef’s menu € 30.
Braised veal with sugar peas and lentils (€ 16). This is the shoulder of a calf, braised for five hours. As a result, the meat is delicate and the shoulder bone has given it a special flavour nuance.
Entrees at MEKK cost from € 17–25 .
Chocolate mousse cake with white chocolate and almond crumbs, cherry sorbet and an oatmeal cookie. Bliss!
The prices of desserts range from € 5–12.
MEKK is an experience that will bring you bliss!
